Our Story

How it all started...

In March 1956, Northside Baptist Church, of Neosho, MO, felt the need for a mission in the community of Monark Springs. The Monark Baptist Mission was started in the ole one room Monark School building, on what is now Monark Drive. On June 4, 1958, the mission was advised the school building would have to be vacated by September 1. Mrs. Stella Roszell was one of the church's charter members. Her dedication to Monark Baptist was expressed through giving and her service to her church, including the WMU and Sunday School. Through her generosity and devotion she donated a piece of land just up the road from the mission and a building was constructed.

The current Monark Baptist Church facility is dedicated with sincere gratitude to the memory of two respected lifelong members of the Monark Springs Community. Mr. Elmer Piercy and Mr. Don Piercy. Their gifts to the service of the Lord have strengthened our continued commitment. The construction consisted of a one-room building with curtains to divide the sanctuary into classrooms for Sunday School. Several additions were made through the years consisting of classrooms on the north end and a fellowship hall on the south end. On September 24, 1961, the Monark Baptist Mission was organized into the Monark Baptist Church.
Monark has seen many people come to know the Lord, several young pastors starting their service, as well as seasoned ministers sharing their vast knowledge of the Bible. There have been many special people who have dedicated their lives to the service of the Lord at Monark Baptist Church. Some of them have gone on to be with the Lord. Their dedication will not be forgotten. In the late 1990's Monark began to see a constant growth and an increasing need to enlarge the facility. This time, land was purchased on Linden Drive, and the ground was broke in August of 2002 to begin construction of a new building. First services were held at the new location on July 4,2004. Monark continues to see growth and is excited about the future.

Expanding the vision...

Not only has Monark Baptist Church seen countless numbers saved, rededicated and baptized, but the church has also become a designated disaster relief center, but among its many areas of service, it has been responsible for providing food for thousands of families for several years.

We have recently partnered with some big name retailers as part of their donations process to be able to provide non-food items to families in need as well.

Where we are headed...

Where we are headed is entirely up to the Lord. So, whether it's aiding the homeless, expanding our food ministry, providing child care or Christian Education, or something else, we will go where He leads.

Wherever we end up, we know one thing for sure: that we will be loving on our community and ensuring that our decisions enable us to live out the love of God in such a way that is conducive to healing both the land we inhabit and the people contained within.
